History of Fashion had a busy day a Roma! We began by visiting the Colosseum, where we transported ourselves back to Roman times to think about what Romans wore. We debunked the myth of the toga and painted a more varied picture of Roman dress.
After some lunch near the Pantheon, we headed to the museum at Mercato di Traiano where the city of Rome has put on an exhibition called L’eleganza del Cibo (The Elegance of Food). The exhibition showcases couture gowns inspired by food–the perfect fusion of Italy’s greatest achievements! Our aspiring fashion historians explored the collection and then acted as stylists. Each student selected one piece from the collection and created a character to wear the gown. Each student then presented their look to the group.
